I bought this for my son but, I was so impressed with it. We just moved to Japan and it has so much information in it about everything not just festivals but other traditional things as well.

If you want an elegant, low-key recording for the holiday season, this is perfect. It is as light as falling snowflakes in a zen temple garden….so exotic yet calming.
This is a must-have for people looking for some refreshing and appealing holiday listening that incorporates the Japanese feeling of celebration. Delicate and warm…goes well with a cup of sake.
Love this taffy. Can eat a whole package. the Strawberry taste like real strawberries, and the grape taste like grape not artificial grape
I lived in Japan from 2001 – 2003, and used to eat these things by the bagful! They are similar in taste to Mambas, but much more realistically flavored, with the grape and strawberry being especially good, and the yogurt being the best of all. What really clinches their deliciousness is their chewability, which is almost like a taffy/gum. I’m not sure of a better way of putting it, but it’s definitely one of a kind…
My favorite way to eat them was to eat half of a yogurt piece with half of a fruit piece. The result = candy heaven!
I used to get Hi-Chews with small packs of hard sour gummies (can’t remember the name) and go to town. Besides those two candies I really prefer U.S. stuff, but oh boy, are those two good! ;^)
These are my little brothers favorite candy. I was so happy when I found them on Amazon. He was so surprised when he opened them on Christmas. They taste like Mamba’s, but chewier.
My sister had purchased this candy for my nephew, and he gave me one.
All I can say is…. WOW! I love the taste and texture in my mouth. It’s like a yogurt filled gummy bear wrapped in a starburst, but way better. I’m an addict for gummy bears, but I now deem this candy above my yummy gummies. I’m also very lucky, because I can get this candy around my neighborhood for $.50 cents.
We all have sweet tooth. Sometimes we eat junk food more than regular. Then again we also need a quick snack, or just want to eat candy. Ever thought about trying something different from another country ? Straight out of Japan, land of the rising sun, is a taffy candy known as Hi-Chew. Kind of like starburst, but more chewy and a powerful flavor(s). They come in many different flavors that you can’t pass up. Highly recommended for those that want to try something new.
I bought this for my two school-age daughters who are half-Japanese. I read this book to them for bedtime sometimes. I get some education on Japanese holidays too, and I’m Japanese. Great book!
With great drawings, this light text proceeds through the seasons of Japan explaining the holidays. References to food, culture and customs are made throughout. Great way to learn about Japanese celebrations.
The book that I ordered was SUPPOSED to have 48 PAGES. The book that I recieved in the mail ONLY has 16 PAGES. I have emailed the seller and I have not heard from them. They sold me a book that is NOT supposed to be sold, it says so on the in side the cover. I called Barns and Noble and they said that it is a copy for book stores to review before they buy many copies. I paid for a incomplete book!!!!! Very disappointed!
IF I had gotten the whole 48 page book, I believe that it would have been a really great book to teach students about the many different holidays that are celebrated in Japan. That is what I was going to use it for but since all of the pages were not there I could not use the book. I’m sure that if I had the full 48 page book I would have given it five stars and a better review.
A beautiful book. Betty Reynolds is an American who was a keen observer while living in Japan. Her illustrations are wonderful and she covers the whole year and includes a lot of Japanese words (with pronunciations and explanations). There is so much information packed into a very easy to read and beautiful format. I highly recommend any of Betty Reynolds’ bookds to anyone who wants to understand Japanese culture or who is studying Japanese.
