I didn’t expect the quality of the music to be so good, but I have no complaints (very clear with no static, etc). You get around 99 songs for a fraction of what they would cost on iTunes. I have always loved her music and was delighted to see so many songs in one collection.

I would say this movie is ok. Some of the speeches in between songs can be annoying but sometimes cool. If you can find it for a cheap price (under 20 bucks) get it.
An hour of old both life and promo clips, well edited, nice sound and picture and very interesting documentary.Interviews are much longer than in the ¨Punk And Disorderly¨DVD,only HALF of the footage is exactly the same as in that one,in tipical Cherry Red scamming style,so don’t buy both (P n Dis is better)
This recording has all of the Commodore Recordings, and most of Columbia, and Decca Masters. It doesn’t include any of her Verve years. If you get this and the complete Verve masters, It should take care of all but the extreme Lady Day obsessive compulsives.

THE PACKAGING: A ‘narrow’ cardboard box, which contains 4 CDs in cardboard sleeves, not jewel cases as is stated in Amazon’s description. It’s easy to get the CDs out of the sleeves, though. The back of the box has a tracklisting, as do each individual CD sleeve. There’s also a booklet with a mini-bio, background info and descripions of the individual recording sessions in addition to a discography with dates, personnel and original recording code and label. Altogether fine.
THE SOUND: Not great. I can only compare with a Columbia “Best of” compilation from 1990 that has some of the same recordings. The Columbia issue is marginally better. However, more recent issues are said to be even better than Columbia’s 1990 issue. This box suffers from too much noise reduction to the extent where there is no surface noise and practically no treble. To compensate, it sounds like they decided to boost the upper mid-range, giving Holiday’s voice a shrillness that can be a little hard to listen to. Overall, it’s certainly listenable, though.
THE MUSIC: Well, other reviewers say it much better than me. Nothing to criticise.
Should you get this box? If you’re not very critical about the sound, like I am, you certainly should. The music is fantastic. But if you are, save your money for now and look elsewhere.
Billie Holiday changed how we hear women sing. In recorded music, she essentially redefined vocal pop music by introducing a more personal and immediate singing style. She also changed how we think about phrasing, basing hers on instrumental music rather than the rhythms and cadences of pronunciation. But quite apart from all that, Billie Holiday is just an absolute joy to listen to – one of those timeless artists whose music can be enjoyed in any situation, surroundings and at any time of day. Everybody should have some Billie Holiday in their CD collection. Hers is an instantly recognizable and likable sound, so deeply embedded in the fabric of popular music that pop itself is no longer imaginable without Billie Holiday. All subsequent jazz singers, and most subsequent blues and r&b vocalists, owe her a tremendous debt of gratitude. This four-disc box set is dirt cheap and contains all the seminal early records from the 1930s and 40s – the decades when she was at the peak of her vocal power and invention. Everything has been restored impeccably from the best copies available. (Subsequent recordings sound better because recording technology had improved considerably, but Billie’s voice began to reflect her drug and alcohol consumption, and her performances were no longer as elastic or accomplished.)
very good cd set cant beat the value, includes almost 100 songs. sound
quality is excellent also.item was just as described and many merchants
wanted a lot more money for the same item.
